I just heard the first loon call of the year! Just this afternoon our lake finally thawed (it was covered with ice yesterday), and a few minutes ago I heard the loons call. They weren’t there at sundown, so they must have arrived in the last couple of hours.

I just hope the eagles leave them alone. Two days ago we had four bald eagles sitting on the ice…and they like to eat loons.
