I’ve just completed the first year of a doctoral program in systematic theology at Wycliffe College, University of Toronto. Previously I completed the M.Phil. at the University of St Andrews, edited Lectionary Homiletics, and completed both the M.Div. and the Th.M. at Union Theological Seminary in Virginia (now Union Presbyterian Seminary). My undergraduate work was at Virginia Wesleyan College.
I am a lifelong (well, since infant baptism) United Methodist interested in both intra-denominational integrity and ecumenical dialogue (the two are mutually supportive). My theological interests are in ecclesiology, ethics, ecumenical dialogue, hermeneutics, theologies of-and-through the arts/music, Barth, Schleiermacher, and the Wesley brothers (principally, emancipating Charles from obscurity).
An earlier incarnation of this blog is over on Blogger, if you want to check that out. It’s old stuff, though.
If you’re wondering about the title of this blog, Fides ex auditu, it’s the title of my M.Phil. thesis (subtitle: “Dogmatic theology and the ecclesial practice of music”). Though it’s a bit of plagiarism from St Paul via St Jerome: it comes from the Latin Vulgate of Romans 10.17: “So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ.” (RSV)

Welcome to the world of blogging. I find that sometimes it is a distraction, keeping me from my real work; but more often it is helping me be more productive. Whether anyone else reads or not, it helps me focus my own thoughts and get started on projects I’ve been putting off.
