So why the fleur-de-lis as the aesthetic theme of this blog? I must admit, I’ve always had a thing for the fleur-de-lis. I think it began in Cub Scouts, which led me to like the New Orleans Saints. I later became an Eagle Scout and, since moving to the Twin Cities, I’ve become a fan of the independent baseball team, St Paul Saints, as well as the local St Croix Falls Saints.

Of course, the fleur-de-lis is historically related to Christianity, and European Christianity in particular, which provides an aesthetic referent of sorts. It’s classic-yet-chique, sporty-yet-antique, not as dull as bullet points, nor as difficult to reproduce as that symbol used by the artist formerly known as “the Artist Formerly Known As Prince.”
